1. REVIEW OF 2009/10 SEASON ACTIVITIES

It has been a full and demanding season which all the children found rewarding. Our thanks go to the Coaches as ever, and to the parents who provided lifts. The main activities were:

• Saturday training BWS (1200-1500)
• SABA League – U12, U14, U16 teams
• Thursday evening training (U16)
• National League – U16 team
• Junior school coaching programme – James Chubb

2. FINANCIAL SUMMARY

Special thanks go to Kate Martin for maintaining the accounts so diligently and for so long. The funding situation is healthy going in to the 10/11 season.

3. OPTIONS FOR – 2010/11 Season

It was agreed that the focus would be on the U16 team. The need for a regular Saturday morning training session was recognised for the long term viability of the club but this will not happen without more coaching support.

This may come from the men’s team who will be encouraged to have an interest in developing young players to join the men’s squad once they are too old for U16 competitions.

The club would look to sponsor potential coaches through Levels 1 & 2 coaching qualifications.

4. ELECTION OF CLUB OFFICIALS

The following were nominated and duly elected as officials of the club:

Chair - Julia McIntosh
Secretary - Nicola Dunning
Treasurer – Angie Bywater
Technical Advisor – Andy Blake

5. AOB

A copy of all the full minutes is available from the Committee.

Please come to the Basketball Club AGM if you can – BWS Sports Hall 8pm. It won’t take long.

AGENDA
1. Review of activities – 2009/10 Season
2. Review of finances – including current balance sheet
3. Options for club – 2010/11 Season
4. Election of officials
5. AOB

The AGM will be held on Thu 4 Nov at 8pm in the Sports Hall at BWS. The aim of the meeting is primarily to elect new committee members and to decide the future activities of the club.

In essence, the lack of coaches this season has meant that the only fixtures currently planned are for the U16 Spires team who are competing in the National League. This has been achieved only through the ‘parent power’ of the Spires’ team. It may be possible to do more depending on what support is available.

Please come to the AGM and let’s see what we can do.

Sorry for the delay in confirming arrangements for next season. As you will see it is not good news I’m afraid.

Unfortunately we have lost two coaches due to work commitments that will take them away for much of the season. We have been trying hard to find other coaches and to move training times to allow others to cover. Unfortunately this has not been possible.

Consequently we will not be able to provide any Saturday training sessions for the foreseeable future. We will continue to investigate possible solutions and we hope that this proves to be only a temporary measure and that we will be able to resume Saturday sessions at least next season, if not before.

This is a real blow as it means we will not be able to enter teams in the SABA league this season either. The committee would like to thank all those who have helped last season, particularly the players for their loyalty, and the parents for their willingness to provide lifts to / from our venues.

If anyone is interested in becoming a coach or knows of a coach (or someone who would like to become a coach) please let us know. The committee will be delighted to hear from you, and may well be able to provide some financial assistance with relevant training eg England Basketball Coach, Table Official and / or Referees courses,

For those players interested in continuing at U16 National League level, you will be aware that the Salisbury Spires Boys team will still be playing this season. We wish you the very best of luck for the forthcoming season.

As per the amended post below, there have been a couple of changes. The training schedule for the rest of the season is:

Saturday 26 June – Normal Training
Saturday 3 July – Normal Training
Saturday 10 July – Normal Training – LAST SESSION
Saturday 17 July – NO TRAINING – FOUNDER’S DAY

SUMMER CAMP
SADLY THERE WILL BE NO SUMMER CAMP THIS YEAR AS IT HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN A SUITABLE VENUE.

NEXT YEAR
Saturday 4 Sep 10 – Training Starts (TO BE CONFIRMED)

Unfortunately it has not been possible to secure a venue in Salisbury for a Summer Camp this holiday and hence there will be NO SUMMER CAMP this year. Our first choice (BWS) will be closed due to repairs on the roof and the other options are fully booked. Your disappointment is shared by Andy who has worked really hard to try and make this happen. Andy is looking at the options to run some sort of Camp over the Christmas holidays.
