The Spires were in action again at the weekend travelling to the unique Sportsdome, home of the Taunton Tigers. A great start from the Spires saw them end the first period with an 8 point lead and going in at the half just 2 points down. Jack Parker, back from an injury that kept him out of the first half of the season had a great first half dominating the paint against much bigger opposition. Sadly though, after arguably the best half the Spires have played all season, they could not keep up with the pace and intensity that the National League demands. With Centre, Jamie Poulton fouling out in the 4th, the boys lost their composure after numerous shots failed to fall. Eventually the Spires fell to the Tigers 38 – 71. The Tigers travel to Salisbury on the 13th of March and the team has proved to themselves that the game is there for the taking if they can keep up the pace throughout. Hopefully the home court advantage and the thought of revenge may swing the game in their favour.

Match Report – Bristol Academy Fliers 54 Salisbury Spires39
Salisbury Spires continued their first every National League campaign on Saturday 6 Feb 10 against top of the league Bristol Academy Flyers at the Wise Campus in Filton. Attempting to improve on a 40 point defeat at the start of the season, the Spires did very well in restricting the visitors score but were unable to create much on the offensive end of the court. A problem that has been evident througout the season so far.
Chris Bywater and Jamie Poulton top scored with 13 and 12 points respectively as the game stayed competitive over the whole 40 minutes.
The Spires have less than 2 months left in the season but with 7 games still to play, and plenty of opportunities to pick up some more wins and climb up the table.
Their next game is on Sunday 21st February again in Bristol but this time against Bristol City Storm who had to forfeit the first game against Salisbury. The team only sits a couple of places higher in the league and are by no means unbeatable.
The Spires would also like to welcome new boy Sam Giles who has joined the squad and had his NL debut at the weekend. Sam is a natural left handed guard with plenty of promise.
Salisbury Spires 40 V 85 Dorset Storm
Salisbury Spires began their first ever National League season last Saturday against Dorset Storm who proved to be a strong outfit from the whistle. With a years experience at this level already, Dorset Storm flew at the Spires putting 20 points on the board within the opening 5 minutes whilst the Spires struggled to adapt to the pace the game required. Salisbury got into foul trouble in the 2nd quarter leaving the first half 30 points down. Salisbury rallied in the second half, competing with Dorset throughout and limiting them to almost half their first half total. The Salisbury boys began to calm down and start playing the game with more sense and composure. The defence did well, commanded by James Cobb in the middle and the offence worked a lot harder to take care of the ball and earn the opportunity to score. Chris Bywater led the team scoring 12 points as James Cobb (9) and Sonny Pillay (8) also contributed well in the 2nd half. Sam Rauh also gave a great contribution of 7 points coming off the bench and offering Salisbury options on the transition from defence to offence. Despite the loss, the young team did themselves proud in a game that could have easily seen them drop their heads early on. On Saturday 31st October Salisbury will travel to Torbay to take on the Tigers.
